Although we do offer workshops and plenty of supplementary materials, the R-PAS manual is comprehensive and it is possible to learn the entire system from the manual alone. This is particularly true for people who already have experience with Rorschach based assessment. If you do not, the manual probably would need to be supplemented with our free videos that let you see how an administration is done. It is our goal to facilitate the learning of R-PAS in as many ways as we can in order to accommodate different styles of learning. Our in-person workshops and online trainings provide an opportunity to directly interact with the R-PAS authors, and we also have several pre-recorded webinars online that are free to view. Other free support material includes checklists to guide administration, several coding videos, two administration videos, and response recording templates. For people who supervise or teach, we also provide access to over 1,000 slides of teaching materials, cases for coding, and two sets of structured administration packets that help teach administration skills via role play. If you have any questions we would love to hear from you. You can contact us at info@r-pas.org.
Most people find it surprisingly easy (and helpful) to transition from the CS to R-PAS. There are several appendices in the R-PAS manual that address common issues encountered when moving from the CS, including a list of codes that were removed, replaced, and reworked, a glossary of terminology, and a side-by-side comparison of administration differences.
Our Multimedia Resources page also provides access to several free 3-hour webinars that are geared towards helping users or instructors make the transition from the CS to R-PAS.
The R-PAS scoring program is contained entirely online. There is no software to download and no files are stored on a hard drive. As the program is entirely online we understand security is a primary concern for users and that is why all connections with the account holder portions of the site are encrypted and all content is held on encrypted, secure servers with redundant back-up. We do not sell or rent any information about our account holders.
It is up to the individual preferences of the user. Some users prefer the e-manual which can be accessed at any time from any device with an internet connection. The e-manual is allocated to a single account. As such, it can be personally annotated and bookmarked. It is also easily searched for keywords. Many people find it to be a convenient alternative to or supplement to the rather large and heavy printed version. Once ordered, the e-manual is accessed from within your account via a link on your Control Panel.
Users who prefer the printed manual often cite several features, including the ability to use it without a web connection, and the ability to flip quickly to another section when desired. Like the e-manual, it is easy to annotate and bookmark.
Our workshops offer a direct and flexible experience for learning both the introductory and advanced features of R-PAS. Although every workshop is different, we hope the general information below will help you choose the workshop that is best suited for you. Click here to access our workshop brochure.
We offer three types of introductory workshops: 1-day, 2-day, and 4-day. As you might imagine, the 1-day is the least intensive, consisting primarily of lecture with some brief case discussion, and the 4-day is the most intensive, consisting of hands-on training in administration, coding, and interpretation.
The 1- and 2-day workshops are generally designed for people who have previously used Exner’s Comprehensive System (CS). They provide an overview of the primary reasons for using R-PAS rather than the CS; describe what is different in R-PAS administration, coding, and interpretation relative to the CS; and illustrate its use through case interpretation. A primary difference between a 1-day and a 2-day introductory workshop is the depth of application to a case. A 1-day workshop generally only allows time to consider one case in a relatively brief and superficial manner. A 2-day workshop considers two cases in-depth and also allows more time for an introduction to the R-PAS website, which includes the online scoring program and other resources, and an overview of the R-PAS norms and interpretive profiles for youth. Both the 1-day and 2-day workshops are largely didactic, though case discussions are more interactive and allow opportunities to collaboratively think through the case material.
The 4-day workshop is designed to be a thorough, hands-on training experience that will prepare examiners to competently begin using R-PAS in practice. These workshops do not presume attendees have previous knowledge of the Comprehensive System, or of the Rorschach. Although they are ideal for new learners, many very seasoned practitioners have loved the training experience because it is so practical in building skills. The 4-day workshop encompasses everything that would be found in a 2-day workshop but also includes hands-on experience learning to administer the Rorschach task according to R-PAS guidelines, and practical training with coding. The 4-day workshop includes didactic training, interactive discussion, small group activity, personal practice with administration and coding, and case interpretation.
While there is no strict pre-requisite for attending any of the workshops, we do recommend all participants read the first three chapters of the R-PAS Manual before attending the workshop (The Rorschach Performance Assessment System, Administration, Coding, Interpretation and Technical Manual, by Meyer, Viglione, Mihura, Erard, & Erdberg, 2011). Our standard procedure is to provide workshop participants with a 10% discount code after registering for the training that can be used for purchases at www.r-pas.org. In addition, we encourage all participants to obtain an R-PAS account (https://r-pas.org/Account/Register), and all qualified participants will receive one free protocol allocation that will allow for the coding and processing of a protocol on r-pas.org.
The costs for sponsoring an R-PAS workshop are negotiable and vary by the number of presenters and duration. Typically, we ask that the sponsor cover the costs associated with travel and meal expenses for the presenter(s) as well as a per diem amount. The highest per diem rate is typically $2,000, which is for a single presenter offering a 1-day training. We do not typically charge for travel days, so that rate declines for multi-day workshops. It also declines if there is more than one presenter.
If fixed fees are a concern, the presenters are open to negotiating a profit sharing arrangement where R-PAS would split the presentation income (after expenses are covered). Typically, the presenters would like to have some input over attendee fees and any potential limitations regarding the number of attendees. Percentages vary based on which party manages registration and CEUs. We are also agreeable to developing a hybrid of both payment and percentage. Our bottom line is that we would like to provide a training that works financially for both parties.
Things to keep in mind when moving forward with scheduling a workshop in your region:
Dates for workshop
Venue for workshop
Length of workshop (1-. 2-, or 4-day)
Workshop topic
Management of registration and CEUs
The R-PAS team will work individually with each interested party to find a way to host workshops that are most accommodating as opposed to adhering to a predetermined list of requirements and expectations. Contact us at info@r-pas.org if you would like to discuss sponsoring a workshop in further detail.
Typically, all of our workshops provide CEUs. However, please review our newsletter, workshop schedule, or the actual registration page for a workshop to obtain specific information.
All upcoming workshops are listed on the front page of the R-PAS website. Workshops and links to workshop registration pages are also found in our monthly newsletters. We also offer several pre-recorded 3-hour webinars, which are available to R-PAS account holders in the Multimedia Resources section of the R-PAS Control Panel. (Those recordings to not provide CEUs.) If you have specific questions concerning an upcoming workshop, please contact us at info@r-pas.org.
We will accept returns in their original shrink-wrap packaging up to four months from the original shipping date. We will refund the cost of the product, but not the cost of shipping.
You are welcome to return your shipment to the following address. Once it has been received your order will be refunded.

Unlike your password, your username is not case sensitive when signing into R-PAS. The R-PAS site is typical in this regard, in that generally usernames are not case sensitive. However, the vendor who actually hosts our e-manual, Uberflip, uses case sensitive usernames. Thus, if you used a combination of upper and lower case when you created your R-PAS username, even though R-PAS ignores that punctuation, you will need to use it when you enter your credentials to access the e-manual.

If you work in a setting with many assessors, you have several options for creating accounts. One option would be to create a single institutional account where all users share a single set of login credentials. However, we do not recommend this because it is impossible for the system to differentiate users and thus impossible for the system to show you your own protocols separate from anybody else’s protocols. Another option would be to have each assessor apply for and obtain their own account. There is nothing wrong with this approach, though it does not allow conjoint access to shared resources (i.e., purchased protocols or interpretive guides) and it does not allow setting-wide data to be collected in one umbrella account. The third option is an umbrella account, where one person is designated as the account owner and that person then creates additional subaccounts at any of the three levels listed in the table above.
Overall, the system is designed to accommodate a wide variety of institutions. We recommend that you familiarize yourself with the subaccount options described above and then decide what will be the best organizational scheme for your setting. There is no cost to create or delete any account, only to purchase products from within them. We are happy to address any further questions you may have.
